Dance fall 17
This week, I decided to take inspiration from a new source - a chemistry lecture! I had a lot of fun with it. Sometimes I tried to express very literally what the lecturer was explaining, and other times I simply allowed the auditory input to inform my movement in a freer sense.
Editing proved to be more challenging than usual, since I had to consider the narrative form of the lecture. When working with movement alone, it is easier to rearrange material without detriment to narrative - in fact, editing can benefit the narrative structure. But with this piece, once I had decided which clips I wanted to include, I had to work to arrange them in an order that made sense, even though it was no longer chronological or ordered the way that the lecturer intended.
I really enjoyed the process of creating science-inspired movement, and I love how playful this video is. I'm interested in experimenting more with ways to express scientific ideas through dance!
