  • Severin Schneebeli is originally from Zurich, Switzerland. He completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Zurich in 2006 and received his doctorate in 2011 from Columbia University. As an International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University from 2011–1014, Severin focused on the synthesis and computer-aided design of hierarchical functional nanomaterials with Nobel Laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart.

Since Summer 2014, Severin is leading the Mesosynthesis Laboratory at the University of Vermont as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry. He is trying to answer the question whether important concepts of chemical synthesis — like selective recognition and catalysis — can be scaled up to the mesoscale (nm to µm range) to create new functional materials. Severin is meeting this challenge with his broad interdisciplinary experience in organic synthesis, materials characterization, and computer modeling.
Outside of his academic interests, Severin enjoys playing violin, hiking, running, skiing, as well as tasting cheese and chocolate.
